American Idol Top 5 Results Show - April 30, 2008 (Season 7)

The top five launch into a Neil Diamond medley; Jason leads off, and you would think he was bad, but he’s immediately followed by David Archuleta who really stinks up the joint. But it doesn’t stop there; David Cook tries to attitude his way through rather than sing, Brooke is wishy washy, and Syesha is perhaps worst of all. They sound anemic. Maybe they don’t have time to adequately rehearse these, or maybe this odd blend of Idols just have voices based on sound waves that cancel each other out, but this performance was just a steaming dungheap, plain and simple.

Tonight is Neil Diamond night on American Idol. Neil’s easy to make fun of; try it yourself. Sing “Sweeeeet Car-Oh-Line, Bah Bah Bah!” Substitute a hearty “THIS SONG SUCKS” for the “Bah bah bah” and you get the idea. But I kid Neil, I kid. The fact is, that song doesn’t suck, and neither does America, Song Sung Blue, Heartlight, or a lot of the rest of his catalog.

David Archuleta says it was “scary” to meet Mariah Carey, because he’s “not worthy to be in her presence.” I think it’s time to remind David that Mariah is just a Long Island girl that dreamed of attending beauty school; not exactly rarefied company there.
